Parental Empowerment and Engagement

A guiding principle in the CBC.
Much has been said about the
Competency Based Curriculum
(CBC) and its implementation.
However, not enough has gone on
in terms of parental engagement on
the same. The teacher trainees at the
Amicus Teacher Training College
(Lavington Nairobi), know we don’t
refer to CBC as ‘the new curriculum’
and I believe anyone hardly does any
more, because it is not entirely new,
but a necessary curriculum reform
in our national education system.

When the learner, teacher and parent
triangle is a strong team effort, it has
always been known to bring about
success in education, this has always
been encouraged and therefore
it is no surprise that “Parental
empowerment and engagement’ is
listed as one of the CBC’s guiding
principles.
